If you are at the Arena, please see the multicast instructions below.

USING VLC

If you are using VLC media player, open this playlist. Then select the stream you like from the playlist (View -> Playlist). If the streams on the playlist won't open, try this secondary playlist

. If that also fails, see troubleshooting below.

VLC media player is available for download for most platforms from http://www.videolan.org. You need to use the latest version of VLC (0.8.6c). Older versions (e.g. 0.8.5) are known to have problems.

AT THE ARENA

Get VLC media player. Open the playlist window (View -> Playlist) and select Manage -> Services Fiscovery -> SAP Announcements. The multicast stream will appear in the playlist in a few moments.

If the SAP announcement does not work, you can open the address udp://@233.134.83.42:1234 directly.

TROUBLESHOOTING

RTP uses UDP transfer to push the stream to the player. The ports used on it must be open on your firewall. If you use NAT (Network Address Translation), these ports need to be forwarded to the machine viewing the stream. Both features are common in household routers. If you are using the VLC playlist from above, you need to open/forward UDP ports 1234-1237. If you are using Quicktime Player, you need top open/forward UDP ports 6970-6999. Please refer to your router manual for instructions on how to make these ports pass through.

Note that VLC can randomly use any UDP ports if you do not use the playlist. You can override this with the command line parameter --rtp-client-port, which sets the lowest port used. VLC will also use up to three ports above this port. So if you set the client port to 1234, VLC will also use ports 1235-1237.

If you still have problems, join !assemblytv (!ZKGT8assemblytv) on IRCnet or email streams@assembly.org. Using IRC is probably faster as we may not have time to answer emails quickly, but other users can help you on IRC.
