Once again, it is that time of year when little kids go out and enjoy the sun while older kids — gamers and demosceners alike — pack their computers and enter the realms of Hartwall Arena for yet another Assembly event!
Organized now for the 14th consecutive time Assembly is among the most successful and longest-running home computer festivals globally. To celebrate this extraordinary event (hey, it’s the 14th time only once) I have promised to blog here on a more or less regular schedule for the next few weeks. This will be the first entry from me to set the tune for future postings.
First, let me introduce myself and the topics I’d like to cover in this media. My real name is Johannes but more often you’ll recognize me by my handle Hieronymus. To cut a long story short, let’s reveal that Hieronymus is actually my real middle name. I started playing computer games in late 80s and was first introduced to the demoscene around 1991 or 1992. Frankly said, yes, I’m starting to feel a bit old these days :-)
During the golden era of software rendered PC demos (mid-90s) I downloaded and watched every single demo and intro I could find (my parents didn’t agree on the enormous phone bills for long, though). I was involved organizing a few smaller parties from 1995 to 1998, and finally in 1998 was invited to join the ASMORG forces. So that’s what I’m going to write about in this blog: demos, demoscene, parties, good old days, how things have changed, and random rants about whatever comes to my mind.
I will also try to offer an insider’s view of how the actual event is organized and reveal few interesting tidbits of what’s hot at this year’s party. The next posting is due by the end of this week and will cover the evolution of annual Assembly competitions.
Hope you enjoy reading this and other AssemblyTV blogs. Come and join us at Assembly Forums to leave feedback or to get in contact with the organizers.
Keep seeing ya!
